Project management is an essential skill-set for many careers and in many contexts in our lives. Introduction to Project Management is an ideal starting point for those who need to manage projects at work or at home, while not necessarily being a formally trained project manager. It is also suitable if you are considering undertaking a project or a career in project management in the near future and are seeking to learn and apply essential project management knowledge and skills.
Diploma in Project Planning and Management prepares undergraduate students for careers in project planning and management in both public and private sectors of the economy. It also provides an avenue for achieving the Millennium Development Goals and the objectives of Vision 2030 for national development.
This programme is highly relevant in all areas of management as it meets the needs of the modern manager whose role is continuously evolving. In organizations and businesses, project planning and management techniques are useful in all areas that require managing change whether it is people, materials or systems. The programme intends to offer education and training in project planning and management to a local and broad.

PROGRAMME GOALS
This program is uniquely developed to understand project management and its use for business and organizational success in the Maldives. This is first-ever, career-focused Project Planning and Management Degree Program in town that gives the students the real edge in both theoretical and practical know-how necessary to handle a small to mega-scale projects project successfully from idea to completion. This program is intended to prepare competent and confident project management specialists to cater to the ever-growing infrastructure development needs of the country and to fill the market void in project management skill, enabling the students to pursue a career in project management. This will also help the students be more effective in their employment at whatever position they occupy in the organization.
The Maldives is witnessing a period of rapid development in infrastructure and housing, as well as the expansion of local tourism has opened new avenues for employment and business. Labour market lacks necessary local skills and talented labour who could professionally manage these development projects successfully. Project Management has been acknowledged as an absolutely essential tool for all managers and supervisory staff.
This program offers a comprehensive range of study areas relevant to current Project management needs and challenges, specifically focused to the Maldivian context.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
- Be familiar with project management terminology, concepts, and definitions have an understanding of key project success and failure factors within their workplace know the key skills and processes to manage project teams
- Be able to refine the project scope statement
- Determine the approach for decomposing the work of the project to the required level of detail ·
- Be able to apply key project management tools and formulate a Gantt chart, work breakdown structure and budget,
- Identify and solve problems in considering project alternatives and selecting the preferred option
- Work effectively with others when managing the implementation of a project plan
- Collect, evaluate, organize and critically evaluate information to develop a clear and workable project plan
- Collect, evaluate, organize and critically evaluate information when reviewing the preliminary scope statement and other relevant inputs
- Communicate effectively when including components and completion criteria into the Work Breakdown Structure dictionary
- Use science and technology when documenting the decomposed work in the Work break down Structure format
- To produce graduates equipped with knowledge, skills and values in project monitoring and evaluation.
- To produce skilled human resources in planning and managing financial resources for infrastructure and development projects.
- To develop human capacity in research and evaluation in projects.
- To train human resources that can create and manage their own projects

ENTRY CRITERIA
GENERAL ENTRY
- Successful completion of Higher Secondary Education OR
- Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field OR
- Attainment of a Level 4 Foundation Study Program approved for the specific Diploma program.
ALTERNATIVE ENTRY
- 20 years old, completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program OR
- 20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program
